Yamato Yums

Anybody that knows me knows that I LOVE sushi. I've made my own sushi at home before, I've competed with my friends in a sushi-eating contest (a story for another time), and I order sushi on Uber Eats a little too often.

Since moving here seven years ago, I've been searching for Boston's best sushi ... and I have found my favorite place. While Fin's, Genki Ya, Basho, Yo! Sushi, Kayuga, and even Avana have great sushi, Yamato tops all of them. The sushi restaurant has two locations: the original is located on Chiswick Road in Brighton, and Yamato II is located at Copley Square in Boston. Yamato offers all-you-can-eat sushi, and before you can say that it’s probably bad quality, I just want to let you know that I have never gotten sick from their sushi, I’ve never gotten a frozen or semi-frozen piece of fish in my meal, and the sushi I get off of their all-you-can-eat menu is comparable to a regular six- or eight-piece roll at another restaurant.

The salmon sashimi (pictured above) is so silky and buttery it's almost as if it melts in your mouth. If you can't already tell, I'm a big salmon fan and the Alaskan maki is another favorite. This roll is simply salmon and avocado—add some soy sauce ... amazing!

Other Yamato favorites are the spicy tuna roll with avocado, the tuna maki, the Philadelphia maki, the caterpillar maki, and the Boston maki. I find that with every roll, you get a good ratio of fish to vegetables. Nothing overwhelms another ingredient and the fish is so cleanly cut that it enhances the flavors and textures.

So probably roll on over to Yamato for lunch ($18.99 on weekends for all you can eat) and/or dinner ($24.99 on weekdays for all you can eat).

Have you tried Yamato before? Let me know what your experience was like in the comment section below. Or, if you think there is a better sushi spot in Boston, let me know—I’m always looking for something new to try.
